Welcome 9th Honors Class 2010-2011!

Welcome to room 506, the land of language and literature.  Over the next year, we’ll be reading, writing, talking, presenting, examining, exploring, and—of course—learning.  Prepare for the journey.  It won’t be easy, and sometimes, you’ll get frustrated…but I promise, it will be worthwhile.  Most importantly, we won’t end up like this:

Literature Selections for 2011-2012

One of the first questions students ask is, “What are we going to read this year?”  I have mapped out the major works we will cover in the list below.  ****It is strongly encouraged that you purchase your own copy of each text we read.  These texts will be analyzed extensively in class, and students consistently perform better when they are able to mark and write in their texts directly.****

Semester One: Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and possibly also Animal Farm

Semester Two: Romeo and Juliet, poetry and nonfiction unit, The Odyssey* (no purchase of Odyssey is needed–the text is in our textbook)

Short stories, poems, and nonfiction selections will also be included within each unit.
